Everything you need to know about Anti Wrinkle Injections

Finding new and effective ways to beat the signs of ageing can be tiresome. Like most, you may find yourself trying all types of weird and wonderful remedies and lifestyles to prevent wrinkling of any kind.

Over time, fine lines and wrinkles appear, whether we like it or not, in the form of smile lines, laugh lines or sagging skin. What was once only fixable through surgical procedures can now be tackled with a simple anti-wrinkle treatment. The ability to relax the muscles in almost every area of your face has become effortless.

To help you understand this aesthetic procedure in more detail, we’ll cover everything you need to know about anti-wrinkle injections. We’ll include everything from what’s in them, their safety and side effects.

We hope that you find this guide helpful.

What are anti wrinkle injections?

Anti wrinkle injections, also referred to a Botox, are a cosmetic treatment designed to reduce the visible appearance of wrinkles. Just as the name suggests, they come in the form of an injection designed specifically to tackle all types of common wrinkles found on our faces.

They work by relaxing the muscles within the treated area to soften and smooth the skin. Relaxing the muscle allows the skin to return to the natural, stress free form that it once was. This super effective treatment is used all over the world every day to help people tackle early signs of ageing and help them to look and feel youthful even into old age.

The injections themselves contain a mixture of proteins and a solution called botulinum toxin. Both of these are safe and harmless if administered correctly by an experienced and qualified professional.

What areas can I have treated?

Anti-wrinkle injections can be administered to most areas of the face. Most people tend to have the frown/forehead and eye region (crow’s feet).

We like to always ensure that the entire face stays in balance/harmony and may sometimes suggest having the lower face region injected-this could be the lip/chin/neck regions too.

These injections are also done to help with migraines as well as bruxism (teeth grinding) and excess underarm sweating (Hyperhidrosis).

How long do results last?

This question can be challenging to answer as it varies depending on several factors, including the depth of the wrinkle, the type of anti wrinkle solution used and the area being treated.

Results usually last between 3-4 months in duration (some people may get a little longer in duration depending on their lifestyle and genetics). Following your treatment, our medical professionals can provide more information on extending and maintaining results to ensure you’re getting the most out of your treatment.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

One of the reasons that makes this treatment so popular, is that it is virtually pain-free. You’ll be able to enjoy smooth, wrinkle-free skin with minimal discomfort. If you are apprehensive about the use of needles, rest assured that the needles used are so fine that you will barely feel them.

Most patients say that the only sensation they feel is a slight pinch at the injection site, and nothing more. If you are still unsure, local anaesthetic is available at your request.

How long does the treatment take?

Following the last question, you’ll also be pleased to know that treatments are usually quick. Treatments typically take around 30-45 mins. Depending on the number of areas being treated and the size of the area being treated, duration of treatment could be shorter or longer.

When will I see the results of my treatment?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking the signals from the nerves to your muscles. Once the injection has been completed, the muscle will no longer have the ability to contract. By doing this your wrinkles gradually relax and as a result, soften the skin.

Typically, it takes around 1-2 weeks following treatment for your results to take full effect. It is very important that if you are unsure if you need more Botox that you book in for a review around 2 weeks post-treatment. Your doctor will then review and add more Botox (at no extra cost) if indicated.

Are there any side effects of anti-wrinkle injections?

As with most cosmetic treatments, anti-wrinkle injections can cause some common side effects. Not to worry though, as they are often only temporary and kept to the treated area.

The most common side effects of anti-wrinkle injections include:

Redness
Bruising
Swelling
Facial pain
Headache and nausea
Muscle weakness

As mentioned, the side effects listed above are only temporary and will only last for a few days.

How much do anti-wrinkle injections cost?

The cost of this treatment depends entirely on the area being treated and the number of treatments. Please speak to one of our specialists to book a consultation and a total cost breakdown for the look you want to achieve.

As results last typically between 3 to 4 weeks, we would advise you to book top-up sessions in advance to maintain your results.
