Microneedling is a popular cosmetic treatment designed to stimulate collagen production in the skin to help tackle imperfections, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and scarring.
The treatment involves a roller covered in very small, fine needles to create microscopic controlled breaks in the skin. This then triggers the bodies natural healing process, encouraging collagen and elastin production in the treated area. At our clinic in London, we offer Microneedling combined with revolutionary Growth Factors, produced by AnteAge® for unbeatable results. With any cosmetic treatment, it’s always important to know what to expect following your treatment and the appropriate aftercare to ensure you’re getting the most out of your treatment.
To help you understand what to expect following a Microneedling treatment, we’ll cover everything you need to know about aftercare and maximising your results.
We hope that you find this guide helpful, and if your questions aren’t answered, get in touch with our friendly treatment specialists for more information or to book a consultation.
We strongly recommend staying out of the sun for up to 48 hours and avoiding sunbeds or sunbathing for up to two weeks following treatment.
If you do plan to be out and about during summer months, please use SPF30 sunscreen or above however, do not apply any chemical sunscreen on the day of your treatment, as this may irritate the treated skin.
It’s important to keep your body from sweating excessively, and to avoid strenuous activities or exercise for up to 48 hours following treatment.
Sweating can put you at risk of irritating the skin and may risk delaying your results. When having your Microneedling treatment, the microscopic breaks in the skin are open and can be susceptible to bacteria and dirt.
Protect your results by taking it easy for a few days while your treated area heals.
To help ease the warmth and sensitivity of your skin following treatment, we recommend using a cool and hydrating face mask. Do NOT use a harsh or heavy chemical face mask, as this will likely irritate the skin.
Speak to your practitioner if you do decide to use a face mask to reduce inflammation and help with the side effects of Microneedling.
To avoid irritating the microabrasions in the skin, avoid products that include ingredients such as Retinol and other acidic properties.
Speak to your practitioner about suitable products if you do wish to continue with your skin care routine.
They will be able to recommend and provide more information on whether the products you’re using will put you at risk of irritating your treated area.
Both pools and the ocean contain irritants such as chlorine or sea salt which may cause pain and irritation to the treated area.
We recommend avoiding swimming altogether for at least 1 week following treatment. Although this is a good exercise to avoid sweating, the irritants in the water can still cause damage.
For the first 24-48 hours after treatment, you will need to allow your treated skin to breathe.
As your skin will have been delicately broken, the open microabrasions will be more vulnerable to irritants entering the pores and causing unwanted irritation.
We recommend going for a few days without makeup to allow your skin enough time to recover following your treatment. Booking your treatment away from events or instances where you may require makeup would be a good idea to avoid any issues.
Overall, Microneedling is a highly effective treatment for tackling skin imperfections such as scarring, wrinkles and fine lines, helping you to improve your appearance quickly and effectively. When having this treatment, you must follow the appropriate aftercare guidelines to ensure that you achieve the results you desire without any complications.
